What else can you do in the Midwest in 100 degree heat?

I started an online show called Word To Your Mutha  in September of 2007 after recently getting back from an adoption trip to China.  I had an 8 month old, a 10 month old, and a three year old.  It was during the madness of trying to feed everyone at once that I longed to turn on a TV show and find a mom lifestyle program that could inspire or help me as a mother. I could watch moms giving birth or adopting. I could watch celebrity moms or moms with super large families. But I was searching for a show about me.  The Everyday Mom with Everyday Mom problems.  So I decided to create one and put it on my website.

I quickly found out that producing a show as a one woman production team with three kids, no money, and no experience making shows  or being on camera was going to be a challenge. And it was.  Oh it was! The ideas I had were tricky to get onto the very small screen, but I did the best I could with the resources around me. I also learned that I was head over heels in love with the show making process and wondered if I could do this professionally one day.

The shows are currently taking a little break while I figure out what is going to happen with the Hollywood deal. I’m getting offers to make the shows for various websites and love hearing from any interested parties. Contact me through the contact link and let’s talk.

On this page you will find my favorite episodes from the show starting with this one, produced in the summer of 08. In this episode  I show moms on a budget how to beat the blasted summer heat when you have little kids and are sick of staying indoors.

How not to give your family food poisoning

This episode was produced in the summer of 08.  Summers in Missouri always bring to mind food safety since it’s so damn hot here.  How long can food be left out at picnics and parties?  How long can you leave meat on the counter when defrosting?  Or can you?   Find out in this episode.  I bet you’ll never look at your fridge the same again!

It’s easy being green- the recycling episode

This was produced in September of 2008 when I wanted to set up a home recycling program for the family and thought it make for a great episode.

This is the longest show episode at 10 minutes due to all the helpful information my guest presented.

It was also at the time I was having sex dreams about Ed Begley Jr.

Of course I had to mention it on the show.

China Adoption Gotcha Day Video

It is a tradition in the China adoption community to make a music video of the moment your child is placed in your arms.  When I heard Little Wonders by Rob Thomas I knew I had the perfect song to sum up the entire experience.

This one is my favorite of all the videos I have produced.  Enjoy.

The Richard Nixon Birthday Party

My friend Michelle invited us to her daughter’s fourth birthday party with a Richard Nixon theme the four year old requested.

The video camera was in the car when we arrived and I ran back out and grabbed it and shot footage, knowing I could turn it into an episode of Word To Your Mutha.

This continues to be the most popular episode of the show.

The Halloween episode

Our family LOVES Halloween and I was so excited to make this episode until I woke up with a 103 degree fever from the flu.  I was under a deadline and the show must go on.  I’m not thrilled with the lighting, but as we’ve learned, lighting is not something I do well.  Or at all. It was all I could do to keep it together on camera.

This ended up being a show discussed on many of the mom forums for being a clever last minute costume idea and that was the point.  Mission accomplished!!

The episode that started it all.

This is the very first episode of Word To Your Mutha.

There is a moment after my first appearance on camera when I walk off camera, then come back into frame and make a crazy face.  That was the moment when I realized I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.

This was produced in September of 2007, a few months after we got back from our China adoption trip.  We had 11 month old, an 9 month old and a three year old.  We packed up the kids and the camera and headed to the Missouri Botanical Garden to attempt to put together an online video show.

This was the result.

How to keep your house tidy when you have kids. You can’t!

I made this video at the urging of the CEO of an online video channel website who was holding a contest for the best helpful hints video for moms.

I entered with the intention of donating the winnings of viewer’s choice to my favorite children’s charity.

I did not win.

But that’s ok. I held a New Year’s Eve benefit party and asked guests to bring diapers to donate to my charity. which is what I was going to do with the winnings anway.

Where there’s a will, there’s a Jaden.

As always, bloopers after the end credits.

Why not throw a charity birthday party instead?

This was the second episode of Word To Your Mutha, produced in October of 2007.  My friend Britney was throwing a birthday party for her daughter and wanted us to bring gifts to give to a children’s charity.  Her family would be giving her daughter enough gifts, so why not teach her daughter the value of helping others?

I asked Brit if I could bring the camera and turn it into a show.  It was a miserable 95 degrees that day and I was thankful I left the babies home with Matt.  That left me to manage the camera and try to get the story and keep the three year old happy.

Here’s what I came up with.
